Bottega Veneta Men's Fall-Winter 2011/2012

New York, NY (PRWEB) January 18, 2011

For Fall-Winter 2011/2012, Bottega Veneta considers how the way an object is made affects its look, feel, and function. Remaking traditional men?s wear items like the jacket, the smoking, and the sweater in uncommon ways, for example by mixing materials and methods of construction, allows for an exploration of their range and relevance. The result is a collection that is taut and urban, with an austere, streamlined sensibility.

The palette for fall is somber and moody, grounded in dark shades of espresso brown, tourmaline blue, stone, rust, and pyrite gray. Technicolor brights heighten the industrial effect?there is vivid sapphire, peridot, orange resina, and a fiery red called corniola. The silhouette is narrow and close to the body, with a natural shoulder and skinny, tapered pants. Jackets are lean and uninflected, some as lightweight and unlined as a shirt, others sharply tailored but without shoulder pads. A slim trench coat reinforces the efficient line of a narrow suit. Shirts are dark, narrow, with classic patterns cut up and reconfigured. A smoking, distilled to its essential parts, emerges in a form that can be stashed in a suitcase.

The suiting fabrics, all designed by Bottega Veneta, are produced from a specially finished wool that has a crisp, Old World feel. Subtle patterns woven into the fabrics are obscured, indistinct, woven dark-on-dark and then overprinted to create an effect that is more visual texture than visible pattern. Other materials include washed and aged leathers, densely felted woolens, and soft knits that range from fine jersey shirts to chunky pullovers with irregularly placed stitch patterns. Knits are central to the collection, often used to subtly revise familiar conventions. There are tailored jackets with knit pieces, shirts that are part leather and part knit, and cardigans pulled over blazers.

In a collection characterized by clarity and restraint, the most noteworthy accessories offer versatility, utility, and low-key sophistication. Bags are soft, lightweight, and above all, functional. Shoes are classic in inspiration but remade in a way that blurs the boundaries between formal and informal. There is an ankle boot and a lace-up, both easily worn with jeans or a suit.

?We started thinking about the way we make things and what effect that has on the outcome,? explains Creative Director Tomas Maier, ?If you make a piece of clothing in a new way, what else can you achieve? The elements that comprise a man?s wardrobe don?t vary that much over time. So to evolve you have to reinvent what you already have.?

Discretion, quality, and craftsmanship ? Bottega Veneta has created a new standard of luxury since its founding in Vicenza in 1966. Steeped in the traditions of Italy?s master leather craftsmen and long celebrated for its extraordinary leather goods, Bottega Veneta has recently emerged as one of the world?s premier luxury brands. The company?s famous motto, ?When your own initials are enough,? expresses a philosophy of individuality and confidence that now applies to a range of products including women?s and men?s ready-to-wear, fine jewelry, furniture, and more.

While Bottega Veneta continues to grow, the qualities that define it are unchanging: outstanding craftsmanship, innovative design, contemporary functionality, and the highest quality materials. Also constant is Bottega Veneta?s commitment to its ateliers, where artisans of remarkable skill combine traditional mastery with breathtaking innovation. Indeed, there is an unusual and inspired collaboration between artisan and designer at the heart of Bottega Veneta?s approach to luxury, symbolized by the house?s signature intrecciato woven leather. In the summer of 2006, in recognition of the importance of artisanal craftsmanship and the fragility of this traditional way of life, Bottega Veneta opened a school to train and support future generations of leather artisans.

The most recent chapter in Bottega Veneta?s history began in February 2001, when the company was acquired by Gucci Group. Creative Director Tomas Maier came on board in June of that year and presented his first collection, Spring-Summer 2002, to immediate critical acclaim. From the start, the house?s sensibility was refined, sensuous, and intensely personal, designed for a customer who is sophisticated and self-assured. Gucci Group was acquired by PPR in July of 2004. In the years since, Bottega Veneta has introduced exciting additions to the collection, including fine jewelry, a new watch, furniture, and home accessories, while continuing to offer an exclusive and coveted assortment of ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, small leather goods, eyewear, luggage, and gifts.

Distribution of Bottega Veneta products is global, encompassing Europe, Asia, North and South America, where wholesale distribution in select specialty and department stores is complemented by a growing number of Bottega Veneta-owned boutiques. These boutiques, designed by Tomas Maier and meticulously constructed to Bottega Veneta?s exacting standards, allow the customer to shop in complete luxury, privacy, and comfort. They are, like the products they showcase, a reflection of Bottega Veneta?s exceptional heritage and superlative quality.

Bottega Veneta Women's Fall-Winter 2011/2012

(Vocus/PRWEB) February 26, 2011

The Bottega Veneta Fall-Winter 2011/2012 palette is vivid and bright, grounded in the lustrous white of Canova plaster. Colors range from pale yellow to deep red and include jasper, topaz, resina, fire opal, corniola, garnet, and rust, illuminated with flashes of peridot green. The silhouette is measured and gentle, a single line that starts from a soft shoulder and finishes in a slight A. Last season?s imperceptible tailoring has evolved, more conspicuous now in skirt suits topped with narrow anoraks or light coats. The collection encompasses a broad range of materials, from fuzzy woven wool blends to plush, dimensional woolens, waxed leather, and light sleek nylons and silk. In all cases the focus is on the surface, which is transformed with fabric overlays, enhanced with embroidery, and obscured with overprinting.

Handbags are sporty and relaxed in shape, elaborately hand-worked in construction. Mixes of material add to the eccentric effect, illustrated, for example, in a satchel made of acid-rinsed silk velvet, hand-painted python, and washed ostrich. Shoes are similarly minimal in shape and extravagantly crafted, as in sandals with high, skinny heels that have been printed, hand- painted, or adorned with lace.

Jewelry offers a mix of scale, technique, color, and mood. The jewelry, mostly small and delicate, is made from blackened silver with black and champagne colored stones. There are cuffs and necklaces made of silver lace, and earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and rings adorned with ?painted? eyes?the image is achieved using a dye-sublimation technique--that have a surreal edge. Fine jewelry is also dark but richer and more intensely colored. The pieces, set in yellow gold with a black finish, feature unusually faceted stones that range in hue from faded pink to burnished orange, including morganite, madeira citrine, fire opal, gold citrine, and palmeira citrine. This is the first time Bottega Veneta has used colored stones other than diamonds in its fine jewelry.

?Designing this collection was like being in a laboratory,? says Creative Director Tomas Maier. ?We wanted to push the boundaries, to experiment with technique and craftsmanship to an extreme degree. I felt the right canvas for this kind of innovative workmanship was a silhouette that was clean and uncomplicated. The result is very particular, with a mix of control and passion that I think reflects the mood of the moment.?

Bottega Veneta Launches Cruise 2011/2012 Advertising Campaign

(PRWEB) October 27, 2011

Bottega Veneta is pleased to announce that photographer Mona Kuhn has shot the brand?s Cruise 2011/2012 advertising campaign. The campaign, which features both the women?s and men?s ready-to-wear collections, was shot on location in May of 2011, on the roof of the New Museum in New York City. It is the latest in Bottega Veneta?s one-of-a-kind creative collaborations featuring the talents of outstanding artists.

The Cruise 2011/2012 collection is weightless, effortless, and urbane. The palette contrasts brilliant, saturated colors such as sunset, fire, shock and turquoise, with muted, refined neutrals including plaster, silt, dakar, and espresso. A breezy, sun-drenched sensibility characterizes the clothing and accessories, balanced by sophisticated structure. Fabrics including cotton and linen gabardines to light silk, layered chiffons, cashmeres, fine woolens, various ultra-soft and washed leathers and newly developed Japanese polyesters are soft and luxurious, both functional and pleasant to wear from day to night. Accessories are colorful and polished-looking, the soft leathers given gentle shape by means of innovative construction techniques.

Mona Kuhn is regarded as one of the most significant artists working in contemporary photography today. Born in Sao Paolo, of German descent, she is now based in Los Angeles. Kuhn is best known for her large-scale, dream-like photographs of nudes. She has described her work as redefining ways of looking at the body, and indeed her nudes often reference classical themes, always with a light and insightful touch. Her work has been exhibited and/or included in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Photographic Art in San Diego, the Leopold Museum in Vienna, the Royal Academy of Art in London, and Schwarz Fine and Contemporary Art in Berlin, among other prestigious institutions. Her fifth monograph, titled Bordeaux Series (Steidl), was published in September, 2011.

Kuhn?s approach to her photography is unusual in that she usually develops close relationships with her subjects, resulting in images of remarkable naturalness and intimacy. It was this closeness and unforced sensuality that led Bottega Veneta Creative Director Tomas Maier to approach her for the Cruise 2011/2012 collection. ?I wanted to express a closeness in this campaign, the kind of intimacy that is at the heart of Mona?s images,? he explains. ?In addition, her precise approach to light and color, and the freshness of her images, are well suited to the mood of the season. I?m very pleased with the images that resulted from our work together.?

A video documenting the photo shoot will be added November to the Art of Collaboration video series at bottegaveneta.com.

Mona Kuhn joins a long list of renowned artists who have contributed to the creation of Bottega Veneta?s advertising portfolio. Previous collaborations include Robert Polidori (Fall 2011), Alex Prager (Spring 2011), Robert Longo (Fall 2010), Nan Goldin (Spring 2010), Steven Meisel (Fall 2009), Larry Sultan (Spring 2009), Todd Eberle (Cruise 2009), Nick Knight (Fall 2008), Sam Taylor-Wood (Spring 2008), Annie Leibovitz (Fall 2007), Tina Barney (Spring 2007), Lord Snowdon (Fall 2006), Stephen Shore (Spring 2006) and Philip-Lorca diCorcia (Fall 2005). Bottega Veneta?s Cruise 2011-2012 advertising campaign will debut in the December issues of select magazines globally.
