It started with a Royal Wedding like no other; a bride so assiduously secretive she managed to keep her fantastical Alexander McQueen wedding dress away from the eyes of the world, a McVities chocolate biccy cake as a familiar favourite of the groom which was devoured in its entirety as opposed to the fruit cake tower now embalmed and on display at Buckingham Palace, and a so-wrong-it-was-right departure by an Austin Powers Union Jack emblazoned convertible. It has spilled over into weddings marked by affection, quirks and a personal feel that defines luxury now. Even Kate Hince (n?e Moss) went about her wedding in a way that so was so her you could smell it a Cotswolds mile off.

Winter weddings naturally call for lustre and golden-age style: but this year?s modesty means that opulence comes in small accents of glitter or shine to notch up the white-hot glamour. Whether a sequinned bride in Rachel Gilbert?s Zaza or Jenny Packham?s Belita dress, wearing Matthew Williamson?s neo-classical tulle goddess dress embellished with feathers, or just simply an acre-long veil, or evoking Julie Christie?s pure beauty in Doctor Zhivago, a light touch goes a long way.
Temper the femininity with masculine hunting lodge touches such as reindeer pelts, timber and warming rum punches at a city Palladian mansion such as our own 29 Portland Place.
2.????A Very English Invitation
Little surpasses the delight of receiving a heavy paper, golden inked invitation to a wedding. Yes, the wacky gimmickry of more quirky instantiations of the invite can elicit delight; but distilling plush traditional formality with a hint of wit in wording or what we have noted to be making a renaissance - a pretty illustration or etching ? and proper, luxurious stationary makes guests feel the wedding couple have gone out of the way to make them feel special. Our favourites are Mount Street Printers or Smythson?s whimsical cards.
3.????Star Cross?d Lovers
Be guided by the stars this season. Inspired by the stellar motif as seen at Dolce & Gabbana, hold an extraordinary romantic winter?s wedding at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich and take guests for telescope viewings, or emulate infamous firmament-fated Romeo and Juliet by eloping to a faraway folly and revel under the night skies. Alternatively, capture the stars in an Andrew Prince tiara, swing from a Florence and The Machine Edwardian style moon from Big Stuff Design, or even appoint expert astrologers and fortune tellers as entertainment of the celestial kind.

5.????Scattergun Wedding List
Combining the traditional gift list concept with a modern re-imagining by having an eclectic registry has become immensely covetable. We think it allows marrying couples to express their unique and original tastes; picking from department stores such as Liberty?s, John Lewis, then a few lusted after bottles of wine from Quintessentially Wine or specialists in English wine, the newly opened Wine Pantry of Borough market, with a hit from notonthehighstreet.com and some maximalist furnishings or teacups from House of Hackney?s gift registry service.
